This project started with a classroom social studies assignment. The students were
asked to visit several historical sites in and around the Santa Clarita Valley. They
were given bits and pieces of information and then had to find out other pieces of
information about the site that they were visiting. They were also asked to take
pictures. The students were divided into groups to do some brainstorming about each
site. For this session, they were able to use several different resources made
available to them, (IE: books on the Santa Clarita Valley, classroom assignments,
information gathered at the site, etc.). After brainstorming, they wrote a brief
informational paragraph. The kids were now ready to type and import pictures!
This web site was created by the students using a template that included only the index
and those links. Anything not in the purple index area was done completely by the
students, under the direction of a parent volunteer, Sue
Feldman. Our 3rd
grade students were invited to display this web site at the Technology for Learning
Summit sponsored by the Los Angeles County Department of Education. Enjoy your
historical tour of the Santa Clarita Valley! |
